Working inside my Mind

Mind-Body connection. What is it? Why is it so important? How does this knowledge help me?  
 The Brain and the Body work and communicate as a unit. The Body responds to the stimulated Brain, the Brain responds to the Body’s stimulus. It is a dance of communication with first one leading than the other. I had someone vehemently argue that the Brain controls the Body and not the other way around. That is far from the truth. While the Brain may direct us to take action, it is doing so based on the information it is receiving through the sense organs of sight, smell, taste, hearing, and touch, as well as gut instincts. Science is beginning to show evidence of what I’ve been aware of for years as I investigated illness, healing, and wellness. I choose to use the word Brain here. I learned that the Brain is not the Mind. The Brain is the synthesizer of input and output, the input of stimuli and production of action, or no action. The Mind is a collection of belief systems, ideas about who you are, and the world around you that you operate on in a conscious and subconscious manner. In this analogy, the Brain is the computer, and the Mind is a program you are running. I often ask clients whose program is it? Where did this programming come from? Is it supportive? Is it taking you somewhere you don’t want to go?

Is it in alignment with your Body and Brain?  When the Body and Brain are well connected, congruent, and harmonious, you are often in the “flow state.” Flow state described by positive psychologists Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi and Jeanne Nakamura, flow state describes a feeling where, under the right conditions, you become fully immersed in whatever you are doing. “There’s this focus that, once it becomes intense, leads to a sense of ecstasy, a sense of clarity: you know exactly what you want to do from one moment to the other; you get immediate feedback,” Csikszentmihalyi said in a 2004 TED Talk.

 My own experience of this is when my Mind isn’t dragging me back into the past or fearful of an unknown future, it is wholly present. I am more productive, more present with myself and my loved ones: more me and less mind stuff.

My teachers taught me that this is an optimum state, not just for business or athletic performance. It is the place we feel fully connected to our Source. It is the place we can not only heal ourselves but keep us in optimum performance and health. A more responsive mind and a less reactive one will make your life so much easier. You will have better relationships, better health, be able to handle life’s ups and downs better, be more creative, and as a result, more financially prosperous.
